Human Trafficking Tears African Communities Apart in the U.S.:
The Issues & Facts

Criminal syndicates misinformed & misled Nigerian Governor in New York City

New York, July 15, 2004 — It has become necessary once again to state for the record purposes the main issues and origin of the crisis in Nnobi community in New York and USA, which is gradually developing and engulfing the Nigerian communities in particular and other Africans in general. The cover-up of human trafficking by a small Nnobi community and others in New York City continues to wreck havoc in the United States and far beyond.

Thorough examination of this issue will reveal in alarming degree the acquiescence of continental African communities, individuals from various works of life and the collusion of government officials which shield this crime against humanity from the public view in the western countries.

I also wish to, once again, express my heart-felt thanks to my friends & well-wishers worldwide for believing in me, standing-by me, as well as, supporting me during very difficult moments.

Let me state that for the purpose of confidentiality and sensitivity, the names of some individuals may not be mentioned at the moment.

In about 1990/1, the indigenes of Nnobi in Anambra State , Nigeria residing in the New York & New Jersey areas got together and formed a meeting called Nnobi Association ( New York ), Inc. A plastic surgeon living in New Jersey and working in New York was appointed/elected chairman of the association.

Shortly after, one of the members - a medical doctor was arrested for impregnating his 13 years old maid (also from Nnobi). Consequently, his two children and the maid were removed from his apartment by the New York City Child Welfare Administration and placed in foster care. The medical doctor pleaded for financial assistance from the members of the association. Some of us felt that the association should come to the aide of the little girl who suffered additional pain and trauma to abort the pregnancy.

The Chairman - also a medical doctor, ruled by authoritarian fiat that the association will not assist the doctor, and that the little girl (victim) will not receive any assistance because she was not a member. Some of us found the response of our chairman concerning the helpless little girl very insensitive and voiced our discontent. We found out the hard way that our elitist Chairman does not take kindly any dissent from “very little people” (new immigrants, people who are not Chairmen/Head of Department of a hospital, people who are not surgeons, and people who are not ‘solidly established’ financially). The Chairman (a plastic surgeon) formed a close-knit clique within the association. He allowed his clique to turn the meetings of the association into salacious sexual gossip parlor against individuals they consider dissidents.

On one of the days they executed mob lynching, during our regular meetings, I defended myself and in the process exposed the publicly-known wild-sexual-escapades of his clique as well as his wife, thereby bring it home to him the foolishness of his leadership (or lack of it). Hell broke loose after that day. Instead of proper appraisal of their folly, the ‘elitist Chairman’ and his associates went on rampage.

Unknown, to me the chairman/surgeon convinced the clique that I had to be eliminated by any means so they could have ‘peace’. They enforced it through set-ups, blackmails, and assassination plots both in the United States and Nigeria. Mr. & Mrs. Fidelia Ekemma Udogwu (a.k.a. Ifeoma) volunteered to champion and coordinate the blackmails and assassination plots.

This syndicate:

  • Wrote malicious anonymous letters to the authorities accusing me of engaging in illegal activities, which have been determined to be false.
  • Mailed those letters from places such as Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, New Jersey, etc to the city and federal authorities
  • Followed-up with numerous telephone calls to the authorities.
  • Maliciously misconstrued my hospitality to visiting businessmen and women from Nigeria, as well as, other parts of the world who I receive in my residence to rope me into situations I was not part of.
  • Engaged in massive blackmails designed to tarnish and undermine my reputation and integrity.
  • Plotted to assassinate me by gunshots on few occasions, as well as, sought ways to eliminate me by poisoning.
  • Infiltrated my family, relatives and close friends and destabilized relationships.
  • When I traveled to Nigeria , they plotted with their contacts to assassinate me and make it appear like armed robbery. Believing that they had successfully set me up for elimination, the syndicate announced my death. But, by the special grace of God, ‘the body’ refused to arrive for burial.

Consequently, without my knowledge, the system was generated to commence over ten years of high-level investigations by various departments targeting me and some other individuals in the U. S. and around the world.

I received the details and hard facts of their devilish in the late 1990s, and decided to clear my name. That, consequently, opened the Pandora’s Box on their identity and true motives.

Among the clique were human trafficking syndicates smuggling children from Nigeria into the United States and enslaving them for domestic labor exploitation; others immigration fraudsters; operators of various sorts of fake ID scam & mail fraud; hard substance smuggling suspects; a hospital lab technician who poses as a medical doctor and illegally obtain and sell prescription medications, as well as does money laundering. This plastic surgeon had knowledge that his associates smuggle poor girls from Nigeria and abuse them sexually, physically, economically and emotionally and did nothing to protect those girls as required by his profession. The trafficked, enslaved and abuse victims had performed slave labor in the presence and household of this plastic surgeon in New Jersey . The surgeon had interfered and obstructed investigation of child abuse cases in the United States in the past.

Despite the fact that the stinking criminal profiles of ‘the surgeon’ and his associates are well-known I never discussed nor interfered in their business until I had in my hand details and hard facts of what they did to me.

In August 1998, Mr. & Mrs. Fidelia Ekemma Udogwu (a.k.a. Ifeoma), two prominent members of this syndicate - human trafficking smugglers severely beat one of their victims, threw her out of their house and wrote the U.S. Immigrations to arrest and deport her. The victim received no assistance from the associates of this syndicate. She was terrified for her safety because she had observed the ruthless operations of the syndicate in the past. She sought and obtained my assistance in resolving her predicament.

During the widely publicized investigation in 1999, other members of this syndicate again were in unison and determined in their attempt to frame me with strange circumstance based on concocted allegations. But it was unknown to them that their true motive is already known. Ridiculous enough, they all suffered amnesia when law enforcement brought up questions about their associate’s involvement in criminal activities. This clearly represents misleading the law enforcement and it was a criminal act.

The two members of this syndicate were tried and convicted for slavery and other major crimes in the United States Federal Court in 1999/2000.

This brings to fulfillment the old saying contained in the bible, that those who live in glass houses should never throw stones.

During the trial of the Udogwus, the associates of this syndicate comprising New York City government and private social workers, healthcare professionals, continental African immigrant community associations, religious bodies, teachers and others again banded together to support the perpetrators. There was no atom of sympathy and support for the victims including the one raped at age of 11. This very act speaks volume about the syndicate and our community.

In September 2003, the Governor of Anambra State, Nigeria - Dr. Chris N. Ngige, the Governor of Anambra State, Nigeria wrote Freedom and Justice International, Inc. a human rights, social and economic justice organization requesting us to organize a meeting/reception for him to meet with New York business and political leaders during his visit to New York City on November 2, 2003. We incurred expenses organizing events for the governor. When ‘the surgeon’ learnt about it, he connived with a Nigerian female socialite (a New York City hotel worker with known hardcore criminal history in the U.S. ) into misleading the governor to dishonor all our planned events. They did not care about the public relation disaster this rascality will mean for people of Anambra State in view of all the American dignitaries already invited.

The elitist surgeon and the society woman were able to mislead the governor due to the following:

  1. First of all, the governor was terrified of everything after his kidnapping in Nigeria on July 10 by people who put him in office.
  2. The surgeon is married from the governor’s family and therefore has tremendous influence on him.
  3. The female socialite schemed her way into hijacking the governor’s itinerary in New York as follows:

a. She voluntarily provided a 4-door Lincoln town car that picked the governor from JFK airport and gave him a private ride to the Marriott LaGuardia Hotel.

b. Noticing that the governor came without his wife, the female socialite ‘abandoned’ her children in her near-by apartment and quickly checked into a room besides the governor’s in the hotel.

c. She decided who had meeting with the governor; the security details, arranged/took the governor to shopping at Sachs on Fifth Avenue , as well as, decided whether the governor will keep his official engagements in New York City .

d. Reliable information had it that she mischievously scared the governor away by telling him that everybody else are supporters of Peter Obi and Chris Ubah, his bitter political enemies among others.

e. The governor probably acted based on deliberate false intelligence.

When we expressed our disappointment and requested payment of the bills we incurred, the governor and his aides unleashed media attack on our organizations. They challenged us to go to court claiming that the governor is covered by immunity worldwide. By these acts, the criminal syndicate in the United States clearly demonstrated their tremendous influence on the Anambra State government of Governor Ngige.

At this moment in my life, I have decided to devote my resources to human rights causes in very significant ways, leveraging resources to assist those needy members of our community who are un-served and underserved. I am waging a major battle to stop the abusive treatment of continental African children (and some adults) smuggled into the United States for the purpose of economic exploitation. Most African victims are working in various households as unpaid maids/servants/slaves. I am also involved in human right causes in the continent of Africa .

There is the conventional saying that there are three sides to every story – ‘your side, my side and the truth’. The facts laid out above are the truth, as well as just a brief overview.

Again, I thank the general public for your time and for giving me the opportunity to lay the facts on the table. Very few individuals will endure the ordeal I went through at the hands of this syndicate without fighting back.

For further information on the issues and facts, feel free to contact me. Also, public discussion on any facts of this matter is also welcomed.

Mr. Ezekwenna - a human rights advocate, was originally from Nigeria and currently residing in New York , United States . He is the President of Freedom & Justice International and the Executive Director of Africans In America, Inc.
