Case Study #3 – Continental African female
- Illegally smuggled into the U.S. in
1980s when she was about 15 years by African diplomat (with
falsified documents claiming parent)
- Forced to raise 4 children of an African
diplomat (employee of an African government in U.S.), did
the household jobs and light shopping without pay
- Brutally physically, emotionally,
educationally, medically, and financially abused, neglected
and exploited
- Not enrolled in any school
- Escaped her captors in early 1990s
with the help of neighbors
- Has no relative in the U.S.
- With expired entry visa and falsified
documents, she is scared of the INS
- Her captors threatened her family
in Africa with police arrest and torture
- She currently floats underground
- Has 2 children with no job
- Has managed to obtain the following
skill training: Home health Aide, Certified Nurses Aide,
Clerical, medical billing, Computer skills, Childcare
- Could not find legal job (on the book)
because of her immigration status
- Currently lives in fear of deportation
among others.
